Description

Plain catgut suture is naturally absorbable surgical gut suture. Unigut absorb by simple enzymatic mechanism and absorption is not as predictable as in synthetic sutures. Plain Catgut tend to absorb faster in infected tissues. Unigut suture initial tensile strength is lost within 7 to 10 days and is absorbed completely in 60 to 70 days. It is non-adhering and biologically inert.

The suture has high knot-pull tensile strength and due to this excellent handling features, catgut is used for all the surgical procedures including general closure, ophthalmic, orthopedics, obstetrics, and gastrointestinal surgery.
